Ukambani region MPs have come together to try to save Cabinet secretary Charity Ngilu who has found herself in a hard place. She faces possible sucking as she went against the constitution for illegally appointing a director general in her ministry.
Parliament earlier last week censured her and she could end up being removed from office.
The MPs appealed to President Uhuru Kenyatta to pardon Charity following the allegations that she went against the constitution. The MPs were appealing during the unveiling of Machakos city.
Patrick Makau, Mavoko MP said that Ngilu should be forgiven and be let to go on to do her duties because humans make errors and that was an error many were not pleased with. He went on to say that no one is an angel and she deserves to be forgiven.
Makau pointed out that residents of Mavoko and all Kenyans need to be given tittle deeds and bringing up such matters will just be a waste of time. He said some MPs need to stop petty politics and let her perform her duties accordingly.
Itwiku Mbai, Masinga MP requested the president to protect Ngilu from Members of Parliament whose aim is to see her out of the lands ministry. He said the MPs want her out for her strong stand in wiping out corruption and immense land grapping within her ministry.
“We all know that mama Ngilu is capable and she should be left to continue with her responsibilities in the lands ministry. Charity needs to be protected,” Itwiku said.
Katatha Maweu, MP for Kangundo, urged politicians from the Kamba region need to be united for the sake of significant growth within the region. He said for now politics has to be put aside as it will drop the region to poverty, instead concentrate on development.
MPs accused Ngilu for creating offices within the ministry and making uninformed transfers, promotions and appointments without following the due process. They want her fired for going against the constitution.
Could this be a sign that Charity is winning over the MPs? Well, time will tell.
