Waititu: I am uncivilised but effective

Waititu: I am uncivilised but effective
Kabete MP Ferdinand Waititu has defended his decision to raid bars in Kabete Constituency terming his actions as ‘uncivilised but necessary’.
Speaking to Willis Raburu during the Power Breakfast show on Citizen TV Monday morning, Mr Waititu lamented that illicit brews have rendered youths in Kabete and the larger Mount Kenya region useless.
He claimed that the residents begun the initiative to rid the area of illicit brew which he supported.
“Residents spotted the pick-up vehicle that was bringing the alcohol and threatened to torch it but I advised them against it, that’s when we resolved to raid the bars,” he said.
The legislator intimated that a majority of Kabete residents, including the clergy and women, were in support of his actions.
Asked whether he had tried using legal means before, Waititu admitted that he had tried but the move proved fruitless because the bars were legally licensed hence the owners could not be arrested.
“We did that out of desperation because the government could not solve our problem,” he said, adding that in the absence of a solution they would use any means necessary.
The MP stated that since his election, his constituency had lost ten youths to illicit brew, adding that when the life of a youth is lost to make a profit it is a ‘sin before God and man’.
He accused bar owners of greed saying their only concern is making a profit even at the expense of human life.
He said that the people selling the illicit brew are Kenyans from the Kikuyu community and they cannot sell it to other communities.
He promised to continue raiding bars because that’s what his electorate wants, saying “People can say anything but it’s the electorate who matter and I will stand by my people to fulfill the promise of dealing with illicit brew”.
Waititu on Friday led Kabete residents in raiding bars in the area, which he accused of ruining the lives of young people.
The move, however, received mixed reactions from members of the public with some praising it while others criticised it as the youths looted the bars and drunk the alcohol.
A member of the bar owners association also threatened to sue the politician for the wanton destruction of private property.
On his political ambitions, the Kabete MP confirmed his desire to vie for the Kiambu governor seat.
He expressed optimism in unseating the incumbent Governor William Kabogo, saying that it was the people’s decision to make and he believes they would choose him.
“I know he is going home,” he quipped.

Ababu Namwamba, Hassan Joho Team Shakes Up ODM Polls

A three-man group is reshaping the Orange Democratic Movement’s leadership race and forcingthe party establishment to compromise.

The trio of Mombasa governor Ali Hassan Joho, Budalang’i MP Ababu Namwamba and Turkana governor Josphat Nanok have launched a spirited, airborne campaign that has taken the party by surprise, with only two days to the National Delegates Convention.

This has compelled the party leader, Mr Raila Odinga, thought to have preferred nominated senator Agnes Zani, to adopt a safer, more neutral position before rival camps clash during Friday’s elections.

The Joho group has been flying to different parts of the country in three helicoptersto campaign among delegates.

Tuesday, they were in Kisumu, Eldoret and Kakamega and are expected to wind up their countryside campaigns Wednesday.

On the floor of the NDC,the group intends to challenge a decision by the National Governing Council last week to increase the positions of deputy party leader to two.

On the agenda, delegates will first endorse the creation of new offices before proceeding to the elect office holders.

Tuesday, Wundanyi MP Thomas Mwadegu, a member of the Johoteam, pointedly wondered when the party will advertise the positions it created last week.

“We want clean elections. We know the positions that were vacant, which people applied for, and we are now wondering when the party is going to advertise the newpositions it created the other day. We are focused on the seats officially advertised,” Mr Mwadegu said.

He argued that Coast MPs resolved to support Mr Namwamba, rather than Dr Zani, one of their own, because they apparently wanted to create a lineup which reflected the true face of Kenya.

“We decided to support the group that reflected a true regional balance and one that is strong enough to move ODM forward. We think that with Joho, Namwamba, Nanok, Rosa Buyu, Ogari and Keynan, we are presenting a strong team that represents a true form of regional balance.”

ROBUST CAMPAIGN

Perhaps sensing the robust campaign the Joho group has launched days to the elections, Mr Odinga has softened his position and said he is ready to work with the ODM Young Turks in the leadership of the party.

“I am ready and willing to assist the young people in steering their leadership ambitions for this country,” Mr Odinga said.

He added that time to give the young minds a chance to fulfil their leadership ambitions had come.

“It is not only right, but also important as a country to allow the youths to lead as we are headed for radical changes in the coming electioneering periods,” he said.

As a result, he challenged the old guard who had held numerous positions in the party not to feel threatened by the young ambitious minds, but instead welcome dialogue and cooperation with the youth.

“The youth will not only bring fresh energy in governance, but also fuel the ambition to fulfil greater dreams and goals, which are very vital to this country’s growth,” Mr Odinga said.

The Mombasa governor, who is running for Deputy Party leader, has pulled a strongteam of candidates to his side.

In the team are Mr Nanok (chairman), Bomachoge MP Simon Ogari (treasurer), Aldas MP Aden Keynan (vice-chairman), Nyatike MP Omondi Anyanga (deputy organising secretary).

Nominated MP Isaac Mwaura (deputy secretary-general) and Suleiman Ndori (deputy organising secretary).

Nairobi governor Evans Kidero, Kajiado Central MP Joseph Nkaissery and former assistant minister John Keen are also backing the Joho-Namwamba team.

They are facing a camp gravitating around Nominated Senator Zani, who is aiming for the secretary-general’s post. This camp has Funyula MP Paul Otuoma (chairman), Kakamega governor Wycliffe Oparanya (deputy party leader), Timothy Bosire (treasurer), and George Aladwa (organising secretary).

Kajiado Central MP Joseph Nkaissery said delegates should put in place a strongteam of leaders serious enough to marshal the country into supporting Mr Odinga to victory in the next elections.

“The team we want to put together is one that can lead the party into an election victory in 2017 and we believe the Joho team is the right one to do this job for us,” Mr Nkaissery said.

Mr Joho was apparently, upset by the decision to increase the number of seats, which meant that the powers for the deputy Party Leader will be diluted.

Last week, ODM’s national governing council (NGC) adopted the proposal to have two deputy party leaders, two vice-chairpersons, two deputy secretaries-general, two deputy treasurers and two deputy organizing secretaries.

Robert Alai To Contest For Top ODM Position

Controversial blogger and social media bigwig, Robert Alai has expressed interest in a top ODM job. On his twitter account, Alai hinted that he may be vying for ODM's organizing secretary position.

"Why not consider me for the #ODMElections Organising Sec. during the next elections." he wrote.

The blogger has in recent months also declared interest in several security positions, including Police Inspector General and Nairobi Metropolitan police chief, but nothing has come out of it.

In a characteristic fashion, Alai then turned on several senior figures in ODM politics, among them Anyang Nyong'o and Ababu Namwamba.

Anyang' Nyong'o has bigger than life attitude making him think that you can't argue with him if you don't have a PhD. #ODMElections

There are murmurs in ODM that Ken Obura and Ababu Namwamba are being sponsored by NIS to disintegrate the ODM brigade. #ODMElections

I want to know @AbabuNamwamba beyond the engrained belief that he only insulted Kibaki for recognition. Who is Ababu? #ODMElections

It will remain to be seen how this develops.

MIGUNA MIGUNA calls RAILA ODINGA a CON MAN….why? find out more here

Come baby come finally came out of the darks after a long unusual silence, thanks to his friend KTN’s Jeff Koinange and as expected, his rage towards Raila still stays at above 100 and when the opportunity came,he didn’t hesitate to slash at the former prime minister and his employer.

The sour grapes which he verbally denies but physically shows towards Raila were on full effect. Below are some of the key issues he labelled against the PM.

• Raila is a political conman.
-In response to Raila’s criticism on Uhuru towards the draconian media bill,Miguna alleges that Raila is not a straight forward man but one who will seize the slightest opportunity to look good.

• Raila is idle and begging Uhuru for a job.
- As a measure of ensuring EAC’s unity and Tanzania dragging it’s feet causing a stalemate,Raila had advised the sitting presidents to appoint group of statesmen to factor in for the unity. Miguna said by this he was begging Uhuru to appoint him as one of the statesmen.

• Raila will run for president once again in 2017,Kalonzo has been sidelined.
-According to Miguna,Raila and Kalonzo had a pre election pact that would see Raila support Kalonzo for presidency in the next elections, however things have changed and according to Miguna,Raila has shown all signs of running again, pushing Kalonzo to the colds hence his silence read as a strategic, hinting that he would ditch CORD which he also dismisses as having never existed in the first place.

• Raila would have done worse on media bill were he had been elected as the president.
- In response to the draconian bill and alleged plot by Uhuru to gag the media,Miguna says Raila could have been worse claiming he is a dictator.

• Raila would have chased him and probably killed him were he to be president today.
- Asked what he could have done were it that Raila became the president,he goes to answer saying Raila’s goons could have chased him away and he’d seek asylum abroad, also he claims Raila himself knowing him would have never spared his life.

• Raila I said before and again he will never be the president of Kenya.
-Miguna laughed off in confidence saying he said it before and it happened that Raila never became the president and says he’ll never be.

• Raila and his people have created fake social media accounts with my names and posting hate materials.
- Miguna first stated that he is not on social media but again goes ahead to say that he only reads peoples’ comments but never posts or comments. He goes further to claim that its Raila.and his people who have created the numerous parodies of him. Ironically, most of the Miguna’s accounts either on Facebook or Twitter are largely used to smash Raila.

• Raila and his Luo people are ashamed,Kisumu people are timid.
- He bragged that people now respects him more after telling the truth of Raila loosing election and happening. As a point of strengthening confidence,Miguna who was last year chased and forced to seek refuge with the police, says Kisumu people are now afraid of him and that he walks freely in the city with no one touching him.

‘Fixing’ claims spark mistrust in Jubilee amid show of unity

The simmering row in Jubilee Alliance over claims President Uhuru Kenyatta retained advisors who ‘fixed’ his deputy at The Hague has unmasked fresh friction points between the two main coalition partners.

The tension between Uhuru’s The National Alliance (TNA) and Mr William Ruto’s United Republican Party (URP) could be aggravated by the United Nations Security Council’s rejection of plea for deferral of Uhuru’s case.

While the two coalition leaders put up a strong face of unity and harmony, going by enquiries within the two camps, the groundswell in the alliance is real and growing.

The International Criminal Court’s cases — which have thrust the Jubilee pair into the dock — has particularly opened up old wounds of 2007 post-election ruckus, when Uhuru and Ruto were in opposing camps of Party of National Unity (PNU) and Orange Democratic Movement (ODM).

Deputy Leader of Majority in the Senate Charles Keter’s sustained demand that high-ranking officials in Kenyatta’s administration, who allegedly ‘fixed’ the DP at the ICC be fired, lit the a political fireball.

His remarks prompted angry reaction from National Assembly Leader of Majority, Aden Duale, who implied the Kericho Senator may have been under influence.

Keter, however, holds his ground: “What I said I will maintain anytime, anywhere, any day. Those who say I was not sober, should prove otherwise.”

Against the backdrop of the latest drama, the President and his deputy called for ceasefire on the verbal war and even shared a podium in Elgeyo Marakwet and Baringo counties on Friday.

But nonetheless, The Standard On Sunday established three key sources of friction between the Jubilee leaders. They include hiring of senior government staff, duties and resource allocation to the Office of DP and the ICC question.

Senate Majority Leader Kithure Kindiki attributes the problem to possible pressure on the DP by members of his URP – a consequence of a pre-election coalition arrangement with Uhuru’s TNA, where each partners seeks autonomy in terms of power sharing.

The genesis of the friction stems from the fact that the DP’s handlers were outmaneuvered when they were let into having the deputy’s office to be literally ‘swallowed’ by and not just an important component of the presidency as spelt out by the Constitution.

County Rep drugged and robbed by city prostitutes

A county representative from Western Kenya delayed his journey overseas, when prostitutes in Nairobi fleeced him off his travel documents and cash before leaving him half-naked.

The county representative was on the entourage of a governor who was travelling abroad, when the misfortune befell him.

According to a hanger-on — who is not authorised to talk to media on this matter — in the governor’s entourage, whispered to this writer that the said flamboyant county representative likes the devil’s drink to bits.

He claimed that on the eve of their journey, the county representative made a ‘technical disappearance’ by lying to the governor that he was going to check on his relatives —‘just for a few minutes’, when he went to a famous joint along River Road.

“When we got to the joint, the beast in him came out and he began heavy drinking, and even invited two prostitutes—whose body language seemed to be desperately begging for the mercy of the flamboyant county representative—to join them in partaking of the frothy drinks,” the insider intimated to Crazy Monday.

They enjoyed themselves for the better part of the night, before the county representative suggested they go for what he termed ‘kupigia mwili pole’ (to give our tired bodies some much-needed ‘rest’). The three proceeded to book themselves into a room—away from the noise and the many onlookers.

His friend further said that the County representative continued enjoying himself—silly for many hours, until around midnight when he decided to go and check on him.

Whereabouts

The concerned friend asked the attendants of the county representative’s whereabouts, and they told him he had gone to a room upstairs. But could not allow him in.

He pleaded with them that they were supposed to travel together abroad, early the following day and he was suspicious of the women the county representative was seen with. Finally, the attendants allowed him in.

“When I reached the room, I knocked on the door but there was no response. I tried to force my way in, and luckily realised that the door had not been locked,” he said.

Crime scene

Inside the ‘rest’ room, he found the county representative half naked and fast asleep with the hookers conspicuously missing at the crime scene.

After struggling to wake the county rep up, they realised that his travel documents and cash were missing.

“He had a lot of money on him, we warned him to leave some in his hotel room but he did not heed our counsel,” the insider intimated.

Word has it that the governor was so infuriated by his behaviour that he left him behind, as he processed his travel documents afresh and warned him that he risked missing out on many other future trips with him. Meanwhile, his depressed wife has gone silent on him.

Ukambani region MPs United to Save Charity Ngilu

Ukambani region MPs have come together to try to save Cabinet secretary Charity Ngilu who has found herself in a hard place. She faces possible sucking as she went against the constitution for illegally appointing a director general in her ministry.

Parliament earlier last week censured her and she could end up being removed from office.
The MPs appealed to President Uhuru Kenyatta to pardon Charity following the allegations that she went against the constitution. The MPs were appealing during the unveiling of Machakos city.

Patrick Makau, Mavoko MP said that Ngilu should be forgiven and be let to go on to do her duties because humans make errors and that was an error many were not pleased with. He went on to say that no one is an angel and she deserves to be forgiven.

Makau pointed out that residents of Mavoko and all Kenyans need to be given tittle deeds and bringing up such matters will just be a waste of time. He said some MPs need to stop petty politics and let her perform her duties accordingly.

Itwiku Mbai, Masinga MP requested the president to protect Ngilu from Members of Parliament whose aim is to see her out of the lands ministry. He said the MPs want her out for her strong stand in wiping out corruption and immense land grapping within her ministry.

“We all know that mama Ngilu is capable and she should be left to continue with her responsibilities in the lands ministry. Charity needs to be protected,” Itwiku said.

Katatha Maweu, MP for Kangundo, urged politicians from the Kamba region need to be united for the sake of significant growth within the region. He said for now politics has to be put aside as it will drop the region to poverty, instead concentrate on development.

MPs accused Ngilu for creating offices within the ministry and making uninformed transfers, promotions and appointments without following the due process. They want her fired for going against the constitution.

Could this be a sign that Charity is winning over the MPs? Well, time will tell.

Teachers Support Bifwoli's Senetorial Bid

A group of teachers in the county of Bungoma want Bifwoli Wakoli to run for Bungoma senator seat. The former Bumula MP has hinted that he will run in the coming by-election set for December 19th. He said this at Maliki boy’s high school during the school’s annual general meeting. He intends to vie for the senatorial seat on LPK ticket.

They are endorsing Bifwoli since he is experienced as a politician who has represented the people of  Bumula for the past two terms. Furthermore he was once a teacher.

Seme Sunguti, Bungoma’s Executive secretary for Kenya Nationa Union of Teachers led the teachers who are in support of Bifwoli over the weekend saying that the man for the job is Bifwoli, as he had fought for the teachers’ rights while he was in office.

Bifwoli said he needs a job as of now he is jobless, and he is ready for competition from other contestants.

He urged the Bungoma residents to turn out in large numbers during the by-election and vote for a leader of their choice but keeping into consideration a leader who fulfills his promises.

Several people have showed interest for the Bungoma by-election. They include; Juma Mukwahana (TNA), Nickson Kukubo (still no party identified), Musikari Kombo (New Ford Kenya), David Makali (a Journalist vying as an independent candidate), Moses Wetang’ula (Ford Kenya)  and Lawrence Sifuna (URP)
