What's This?
if you ask any Kenyan about their capital city, they will tell you it is,
“MJI YA WAJANJA”
Which loosely translates to a city of tricksters. To walk on these very streets I have grown to call home is to be on your toes -literally. You have to be smart to survive in Nairobi. If you drop your ball for a second, you get conned.

Perhaps that is why Nairobi has been considered the smartest city in Africa. Because the residents are always sharp. Evolution if you will.
And so for a second year in a row Nairobi has been named the smartest city in Africa.Sadly, we failed, however, to make it to the world’s top seven finalists.
nairobi the most intelligent city in Africa
That said the criteria that has been used to choose the most intelligent cities according to the Intelligent Community Forum was;
INTELLIGENT COMMUNITIES” ARE THOSE THAT HAVE TAKEN “CONSCIOUS STEPS” TO CREATE AN ECONOMY THAT CAN PROSPER IN THE “BROADBAND ECONOMY.” THE GROUP HAS RECENTLY RELEASED ITS LATEST RANKINGS, RECOGNIZING THE ACHIEVEMENTS OF COMMUNITIES THAT HAVE BUILT INCLUSIVE, PROSPEROUS ECONOMIES ON A BASIS OF INFORMATION AND COMMUNICATION TECHNOLOGIES.
Nairobi was the only African city to appear on their shortlist of 21 hubs throughout the world for 2015.

Europeans Stop Uganda Aid After Antigay Law

Several European nations said Tuesday they were suspending assistance to Uganda, a day after the country's president signed a law that could see some homosexuals jailed for life.

Norway, Netherlands and Denmark said they would withhold aid to the Ugandan government in protestagainst the "draconian law."

On first conviction for so-called homosexual acts, offenders face a 14-year prison sentence. Subsequent convictions for "aggravated homosexuality," which include homosexual acts committed by an HIV-positive person, could bring a penalty of life in prison.

An official at the Norwegian embassy in Kampala said that the measure would immediately affect at least $8 million in aid to Uganda's legal system. Norway extends more than $64 million to Uganda every year. The bulk of western aid has been going directly to the Ugandan government, which would then earmark it for spending in different departments—notably, health, education and the military.

The Netherlands and Denmark said they would redirect nearly $20 million of aid to Ugandan-based private aid agencies and rights groups. The U.S. and Canada, some of the Uganda's largest donors, said they had started reviewing their relationship with Kampala.

The diplomatic moves represented the first fallout of Uganda's controversial antigay bill. Although the bill is politically popular in Uganda, it could cost the government of President Yoweri Museveni. Western donors give up to $2 billion in aid to the country.

"Regrettably, this discriminatory law will serve as an impediment in our relationship with the Ugandan government," Canada's Foreign Affairs Minister John Baird said in a statement Tuesday.

One of Uganda's leading daily newspapers, The Red Pepper, published Tuesday a list of what it called the "country's top 200 homosexuals." The daily listed names of people who have previously not identified themselves as homosexuals.

"The newspapers are inciting the public against homosexuals and unfortunately, government cannot protect us," said Kash Jacqueline, a gay activist in Kampala.

In 2011, a Ugandan tabloid published a list of gay people, sparking a spate of attacks against those perceived as gay across the country. A prominent Ugandan gay activist, David Kato, whose name appeared in the tabloid, was later killed in one of the attacks.

Uganda's antigay bill was passed in December, but Mr. Museveni initially declined to sign it into law, saying that he needed more time to study it. He changed his mind earlier this month, shortly after the lawmakers endorsed him to seek a fifth elective term in office.

Analysts say that Mr. Museveni, who seized power in 1986 following a five-year guerrilla war, was looking for ways to shore up his flagging political support. Most young voters have no memory of the 69-year old president as a freedom fighter.

"Museveni may be tempted by a turn to the well-worn tactic of anticolonial populism," wrote Ben Shepherd, an analyst with U.K.-based Chatham House, in a note Tuesday. "In this context, harsh legislation on sexuality is a relatively easy win."

UN finds mass grave with 75 bodies in South Sudan

The United Nations says it has discovered a mass grave containing about 75 bodies in South Sudan. U.N.'s human rights chief says the mass grave was found in Bentiu in the country's oil rich Unity State.

Navi Pillay said in a statement released Tuesday that at least two other mass graves are reported to have been found in Juba. A spokeswoman for the Geneva-based human rights office says the bodies in Bentiu reportedly belonged to ethnic Dinka who were members of the Sudan People's Liberation Army.

Ravina Shamdasani told The Associated Press that the global body has staff in the country investigating the incidents. She says it is unclear who was responsible for the killings. Shamdasani says the other two reported mass graves are in Jebel-Kujur and Newside, near Eden.

AMAZING PHOTOS: Africa's First Underwater Hotel Room

Africa has introduced its first underwater hotel room. Now it is the second room of this kind in the world.

This room, located at the Manta Resort on the Zanzibari island of Pemba, was designed by the same Swedish artist Mikael Genberg, who erected the first underwater hotel room in a lake in Sweden.

The invention is 4 meters beneath the surface.
The three-tiered suite includes a roof deck, a landing deck at sea level with a lounge and bathroom, and of course the underwater bedroom. The bedroom windows afford a nearly 360-degree view of a nearby coral reef and dozens of species of fish.

A luxurious room costs $900 per night as a single or $1,500 per night as a couple.

Starting from the top, guests can sunbathe on the bed of the roof deck, or stargaze in an area with almost non-existent light pollution.

The windows are under-lit to offer a good view of the ocean at all times.

And at night the lights really show off the fishy inhabitants.

Man impregnates his biological mother twice

ZIMBABWE:  IN a bizarre case, a Domboshava man and his biological mother are reportedly on the run after having an incestuous relationship that culminated in two pregnancies. Simon Matsvara and Ethel Vhangare are from Pote Village under Chief Chinamhora.

Simon first impregnated his mother while his father Agripah Matsvara was alive and for the second time after his death.

It is alleged that the first time Simon impregnated his mother, she had a miscarriage.

However, this time Vhangare is alleged to be five months pregnant and Simon is responsible.

The pair reportedly fled the community recently after getting news that Chief Chinamhora, Simon Chidziva, had sent his aides to arrest them.

It is alleged that Vhangare’s husband, Agripah, suffered a stroke in 2008 and relatives reportedly assigned Simon to assist his mother take care of the father.

Later in the same year, it is alleged Vhangare started vomiting and revealed to a neighbour that she was pregnant and her son was responsible.

Family elders reportedly resolved the matter before fining the pair an undisclosed number of cattle.
Two months later, Vhangare suffered a miscarriage before her husband’s death in 2008.
Simon and his mother reportedly continued with their relationship that resulted in another pregnancy.

The matter came to light after Vhangare absconded church services, prompted churchmates to pay her a visit.

It was then discovered that Vhangare was pregnant again and neighbours reported the matter to Chief Chinamhora who sent his aides to arrest the two.

“We are going to hunt for the two and we will punish them severely to send a clear message to would-be offenders that we do not tolerate such acts,” the chief said yesterday.

In a related incident, another pair from Mutonda village under Chief Chinamhora, was fined three beasts after siring two children in an incestuous relationship.

A 26-year-old man and his niece (22) reportedly cohabited as husband and wife since 2007.
They bore two children now aged four and one.
The matter came to light after the man’s uncle filed a complaint upon realising that his sister’s son had paid a bride price for his daughter to his brother-in-law.

In passing sentence, Chief Chinamhora ordered the man to pay two heads of cattle before relocating permanently to his paternal homestead in Rusape.
The woman was ordered to pay a cow.

“Children are lacking guidance, especially in divorced families. Divorced parents need to set aside their difference for the benefit of their children.

“We are Africans and our culture is being eroded. Parents must unite and send children to holidays such that they are in touch with their relatives and respect each other’s totems,” he said.

Prophecies Turning To Be True

Nigerian pastor has foreseen that a Head of state will be abducted by terrorists. He said that the head of state will be from an East African region.

TB Joshua said that in his prophecy he had also seen a nightspot being blown up where people were enjoying themselves.

This prophecy has worried a lot of Kenyans even as the televangelist made it clear that he wasn’t prophesying about Kenya.

The pastor, whose net worth is estimated to be roughly Kshs. 1.27 billion, is believed to have made prophesies and most of them turned out to be true in Nigeria.

Kenya is used to prophecies from the one and only Dr David Owour, as his prophecies have been turning to be true. He has been prophesying since 2005 that the darkest moment for Kenya was to come and to the shock of many it all happened in 2007/2008. He said that the post-election violence occurred because Kenyans had declined his call for repentance as a nation.

The time when the Post-Election violence occurred, Owour said that it had taken place since God was annoyed at the putrefaction in the community, precisely, the church. Apparently he had also foreseen the terror attack at Westgate that happened on September 21st.

During the month of September, Owour released a video giving out his prophecies concerning the terror attack in details for a period of one year.

On the clip that was recorded on July 9th 2012 while he was in Austria, the prophet cautioned that Kenya is going to face a dark day. On November 25th, the same year, he echoed the similar prophecy while he was in Dublin.

He spoke of a series of explosions, terrorists who were speaking Arabic, and army vehicles, exactly like what was witnessed during the attack at the mall in September.

Many Kenyans have doubts on prophecies. Could these prophesies be real or they are just illusions of some pastors’ imaginations?

Tanzania Issues Travel Advisories To Kenya

Insecurity has been for the past months been the talk in Kenya, an issue that has resulted to the issuing of travel advisory from the government of Tanzania. The government cautioned that it could not guarantee security for the wildebeests anticipated to migrate to Maasai Mara Game Reserve from Serengeti National Park. The migration of the wildebeests happens seasonally as they search for pastures.

The government of Tanzania claimed that there are substantial security threats that Kenya faces, and they had no other choice but to consider protecting the lives of the citizens. The move is likely to affect the relationship between the two countries, particularly since Kenya and Tanzania have been involved in unending trade disputes and some kind of regional supremacy war.

If a retaliatory act follows every trade dispute and this always holds, then the measures to be taken by Kenya are pretty obvious besides the favour. It’s most likely that Kenya might get back by issuing retaliatory travel advisories which will inevitably lead to urging of stray dogs to cross the Tanzanian border for bones and squirrels to scavenge for nuts to do so at their own risk.

It’s not only the Tanzanian government that has issued travel advisories within the East African region. The Ethiopian and Uganda governments have also issued travel advisories that are “sector-specific. For Uganda, the travel advisory warns specifically their very own citizens who are involved in cattle rustling across the border. They are advised not to cross to the Kenyan side for they might endanger their lives.

In the case of Ethiopia, they have issued a travel warning specifically to Oromo Liberation Front asking them to keep away from the Kenyan border over security issues.
