Kethi Kilonzo's Case Adjourned to March 17

The trial of lawyer Kethi Kilonzo on charges of theft of an IEBC registration slip has been adjourned to March 17 next year after the prosecution was told to supply all witness documents to her defence team.

Kethi’s lawyer Fred Ojiambo told Milimani Chief Magistrate Waweru Kiarie that they were not ready for the trail that was to start today because the the prosecution had not furnished them with documents on witnesses.

Ojiambo asked for an adjournment to allow for time to prepare. Justice Kiarie granted the application and said that the trial will run from March 17 to 21. Kethi Kilonzo is facing charges of theft of a voter registration slip, handling stolen property and uttering a forged document.

The lawyer was seeking to contest in the Makueni Senatorial by-election which was occasioned by the death of her father, the late Mutula Kilonzo.

An IEBC disputes resolution tribunal barred Kethi from contesting the seat over non-registration as a voter, but Kethi contested the decision in court.

The judgement was later upheld by the High Court. Director of Public Prosecutions Keriako Tobiko approved her prosecution as recommended by the Criminal Investigation Department after conducting investigations.
