Police are investigating an incident in which a male passenger believed to have secretly boarded a Kenya Airways flight from Bombay to Nairobi was found dead when the plane arrived at the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA) Thursday morning.
Officials at the airport said the flight, KQ203, left Bombay on Wednesday night and arrived at the JKIA Thursday morning.
And when they were opening the rear part of the plane the body fell.
Airport CID boss Joseph Ngisa said they believe the male stowaway, is a Kenyan.
He added he did not have any identification documents on him when they checked the body.
“ It was found in between the wheels compartment. We have taken the fingerprints for identification and will conduct a post-mortem on the body to establish the cause of death,” he said.
He added the body remains unidentified and they intend to conduct the post-mortem on Friday. Ngisa said the body was discovered as officials were cleaning the plane.
“We will wait until the fingerprints establishes if he is a Kenyan. One of the theories is that he boarded the plane to avoid paying fare but we will know.”
It is believed the man was hiding to avoid paying airfare, officials said.
Witnesses said the discovery of the body caused panic at the airport as officials rushed there to try to establish how it was fitted in the compartment.
Police were called there and took photos of the body before it was moved to the mortuary.
