GINIWASEKAO is no more on Wikipedia

The website took down the word terming it as tribal. Wikipedia officials said that the phrase lacked enough evidence to meet the standards for it to be included on the website. This resulted to the word being wiped out.

The officials argued that the entire explanation of the phrase, including the word itself were not neutral.

Lightly defined, Giniwasekao refers to ‘this thing we have taken’. The phrase came as a result of Gor Mahia being at the top of the Kenyan Premier League table with a significant margin, a clear indication that they had already secured the cup this season.

A section of Kenyans especially the Gor Mahia fans were not happy with the decision taken by Wikipedia to take down the phrase. Fans to the club were the ones behind the Luo phrase.

One of those who did not agree with the decision is a Wikipedia contributor known as ‘Masta1981Rasta’. He emphatically told Wikipedia officials that there was no clear reason to pull out the phrase insisting that even several media houses had adopted the phrase.

He went ahead to argue that it’s not a must that articles be neutral as it was just a phrase giving out an explanation to a popular word in Kenyan football.

However, the officials were quick to respond to ‘Masta1981Rasta’ saying that Wikipedia only accepts neutral articles as it is not a news website.

So for those who came up with the phrase, forget it for Wikipedia will never approve it. Here is a picture, a proof that the word is no more on the website;
