Southampton Focus To Sign Wanyama's Brother

The Saints now has shifted focus to Victor Wanyama’s brother McDnald Mariga, who is an Inter Millan Midfielder. This is a move aimed at making their intentions to go for the championship clear.

The duo also plays for the Kenya’s Harambee Stars with Victor being the captain.

MCDnald was hinted of a move to England’s side Manchester City in 2010 but was denied a work permit which would have made him the first Kenyan footballer to play in England.

This record was however retained in the family with the move of Wanyama to the Saints side and could see the brother become the number two.

Southampton manager is planning to effect the transfer of 26-year old Mariga in January 2014. If successful, the team will be banking on the two brothers to heighten their hopes of making it to the champions.

So far Wanyama has played a pivotal role in the superb performance the team has demonstrated so far. Wanyama was bought from Celtic, who are the reigning Scottish champions.

Migration To Digital Broadcast Might Be A Dream

The deadline for analogue signals switch off in Nairobi, has been extended to June next year.

The migration which had been set for December 13,2013 was extended following a meeting between President Kenyatta and Information Secretary Fred Matiang’i.

This move has been welcomed by media owners who have said that it will give all stakeholders a chance to deliberate on issues not addressed by the government.

Less than a fortnight ago, CCK launched a sensitization programme to inform Kenyans on the importance of the digital migration before the switch off deadline is reached.

The migration date was postponed from December 12,2012 to April 2013 after the Consumer Federation of Kenya protested saying it would inconvenience many Kenyans since it would be at a time the country was headed for the March polls.

These postponements by the government have raised many questions whether the government is really committed to the digital migration.

After a series of stern denials from General Karangi that his soldiers did not loot at the Westgate mall, today he came out confirming that two of his soldiers named Victor Ashiundu and Victor Otieno had been arrested and sucked in connection with the looting. Whereas one soldier was under investigation.

He said if he is found to have been involved he will risk losing his job and be arrested.
They were found with phone chargers, digital cameras and cell phones alleged to have been ‘stolen’ at Westgate mall.

Just a few weeks ago the General had said that his soldiers only took water.
Gen Karangi stated that discipline is a core value in the force and that’s why he had to take action against the soldiers.

He went ahead to say that the soldiers had only been authorized by their commander to take water after seeking permission from Nakumatt’s manager.

This comes after the media in the past days has been airing a CCTV footage that showed KDF soldiers carrying plastic bags containing items from the supermarket.

A board of inquiry has been established by Gen Karangi to look into the allegations before coming to an informed decision against all those found to have been involved.

University students involve themselves in a strip off protest

If you thought stripping is only meant for the strippers in entertainment joints, then you absolutely wrong. University Students in Hungary, got the idea to strip and protest after the university asked them to cease from applying heavy make-up and wearing miniskirts.

On Thursday, the students both male and female from Kaposvar University, a university located in the south west of Hungary came up with the idea to attend one of their usual lessons while they are naked. A move apparently they took into their own hands.

A letter directed to the students from the university officials had explained that mini-skirts, heavy make-up, flip-flops, shabby hair and fingernails and unsuitable fashion accessories will not be tolerated within the campus.

According to the officials female students are supposed to wear trousers or skirts that are long in length while male students should be in dark suits.

Those who protested were from an art class. Reports indicate that they only shielded their modesty with textbooks and others did wear a bit of innerwear.

University officials were in shock when they learnt that the students’ professor had joined them in the protest to an extent of stripping off.

Male and female students took part in the protest, whereas another protest is seemingly being staged for Monday. This one will be different as students will wrap themselves in beach towels and wear flip-flops to class to attend their lessons.

The angered students pointed out that the university had failed to come up with a new dress code that matched to the warmer days. The warmer days often hit 30 degrees during the months of summer.

Kenyatta University Invaded With Rape Pests

Several female students from Kenyatta University have lately complained of being date raped within the campus.

Reports indicate that the victims have reported the issue to the University’s Peer Counseling Unit for action.

Supposedly only two hostels, Ngong hostel  and Kilimambogo hostel that are notorious for such cases.

There are claims that the attackers who commit the offences at the University could be from the neighbouring Nyayo Estates.

Dr Karanja of Kenyatta University’s health unit said that rape cases have been on the rise resulting to abortion cases, an act that is very dangerous and can cost a life.

Tanzania Issues Travel Advisories To Kenya

Insecurity has been for the past months been the talk in Kenya, an issue that has resulted to the issuing of travel advisory from the government of Tanzania. The government cautioned that it could not guarantee security for the wildebeests anticipated to migrate to Maasai Mara Game Reserve from Serengeti National Park. The migration of the wildebeests happens seasonally as they search for pastures.

The government of Tanzania claimed that there are substantial security threats that Kenya faces, and they had no other choice but to consider protecting the lives of the citizens. The move is likely to affect the relationship between the two countries, particularly since Kenya and Tanzania have been involved in unending trade disputes and some kind of regional supremacy war.

If a retaliatory act follows every trade dispute and this always holds, then the measures to be taken by Kenya are pretty obvious besides the favour. It’s most likely that Kenya might get back by issuing retaliatory travel advisories which will inevitably lead to urging of stray dogs to cross the Tanzanian border for bones and squirrels to scavenge for nuts to do so at their own risk.

It’s not only the Tanzanian government that has issued travel advisories within the East African region. The Ethiopian and Uganda governments have also issued travel advisories that are “sector-specific. For Uganda, the travel advisory warns specifically their very own citizens who are involved in cattle rustling across the border. They are advised not to cross to the Kenyan side for they might endanger their lives.

In the case of Ethiopia, they have issued a travel warning specifically to Oromo Liberation Front asking them to keep away from the Kenyan border over security issues.

Soldiers Who Took Part In Looting Could Land Karangi In Trouble

It’s been just over a month now since terrorist’s attacked the Westgate Shopping Mall and went on a shooting spree, and still uncertainty about what really happened continues.

Recently, there have been allegations that the army looted during the rescue operation. Former military officers want the Chief of Defence Forces, John Karamngi, to resign if these allegations are true.

Some of the Kenya Defence Forces were captured on CCTV cameras carrying plastic bags from Nakumatt supermarket, the contents of which are unknown. Retired army general said that something must be wrong with the soldiers for them to commit such an act of unproffesionalism. He also added that the top command is to blame.

Intelligence information has revealed that the Nakumatt plastic bags that the KDF soldiers were carrying contained money that had been emptied from the cashiers’ trays at the supermarket.

The CCTV footage subjected the military to public criticism, with Kenyans making fun of the soldiers carrying plastic bags on facebook and twitter during Mashujaa day celebrations.

A retired Kenya Air Force Captain, Njeru Kathangu, who later resigned to join politics said that it would be very hard for Kenyans to forgive the army.

In the year 2003, the US army watched as people looted in Iraq’s major towns. This was a tactic to intimidate those who supported Sadam. Mr Kathangu said that the way things were at Iraq could not apply to Westgate Mall as only innocent shoppers and businessmen were affected.

He added that the KDF squad had let down Kenyans and those who are found to have participated in the looting should face legal action.

A commission on National Security was set up to deal with the allegations. When karangi came before the commission, he defended his soldiers saying that they were carrying water which they had picked from Nakumatt. He said the officers were undertaking a procedure known as sanitation; where they are seen ransacking safes at the mall.

Chairman of the National Security Asman Kamama denied claims that looting by the army was the cause of losses to the business owners, adding that it was a tactic to get compensation. Even after being shown the CCTV footage, she still denied the looting claims urging those with hard evidence to come forward.

Dandora Dumpsite Turned To A Battlefield

The dumpsite at Dandora has been for the past month a place where criminals operate. The industry is under control of cartels, who offer job opportunities to the youths of Dandora. The job is actually to block those disposing garbage at the site without parting with a fee of Kshs.300 per operator.

They collect the money as fee for allowing garbage to be disposed at the site, failure to pay they become violent and turn the operators away with their garbage.

The garbage site is said to be an industry that generates millions and senior businessmen and politicians are said to be greatly involved in the maintenance of the status quo whereas taking diverse stands over the relocation of the garbage site at Dandora.

The gangs at the dumpsite are very dangerous and they are believed to be from the Mungiki squad. Although, one member of the gang denied the allegations of them being Mungiki and said they are just street children who have spent their entire childhood there.

The fights witnessed 2 weeks ago have been as an outcome of some gangs fighting for full control of the garbage site.

Just a few weeks ago, some gang members surrendered five guns to the police following a deal that the Nairobi County Senator, Mike Sonko had promised give out a certain amount of cash for every gun surrendered.

They confessed to have been using the guns to guard “their sections” of the dumpsite. This comes barely days after rival gangs clashed, killing one member and several being injured.

The dumpsite has all types of wastes. According to a report released by UNEP   materials such as expired products, chemicals and hospital wastes are dumped at the site.

There were plans to relocate the dumpsite to Ruai but it has not yet been effected as of now. Furthermore an Italian firm that was interested in the business of garbage collection failed to seal a deal with the government after councilors and cabinet ministers opposed the move.

For the past years, the work for collecting garbage was the work of the NCC, collecting a 90% of the total garbage generated within the capital City. The Nairobi city occupants had to part with a fee for waste collection. Though, with time several amendments were put in place and the charge was dropped. The NCC remained still providing for these services by being funded from other sources.

The dumpsite is a health hazard for those living around the dumpsite and also children who go to schools located near the site. A medical analysis done revealed that there is a greater risk of diseases connected with high exposure to the metal pollutants at the dumpsite.

One way of dealing with stress is ensuring the goals that one set are realistic. It is also important to set priorities to avoid getting overwhelmed with responsibilities. Day to day activities should be balanced so as to avoid the pressures of meeting deadlines. Allocate appropriate time for going to work, school, spending time with family and friends and resting. Set time aside to do things that keep an individual relaxed. This can be through exercising, taking a bath, listening to music or doing yoga.

Identifying stressful point sources and avoiding is another way of dealing with stress. These sources can be related to individual habits, friends and attitude. For example, there are some people who due to the nature of the relationship may cause continuous stress to others. Limiting the amount of time that one spends with such kind of people will be critical to preventing stress. Dealing with stress in this case will require a person to view the problem differently and adjusting one’s attitude to deal with the situation better. Focusing on the positive side of a bad situation helps keeps things in perspective and find alternative solutions. Lack of enough sleep may contribute to increased stress.  Management of stress also requires people to avoid substances that may cause a person to avoid dealing with an issue.
